6 tracks you should bump this week

Bedroom pop heartbreak, a back and forth from hip hop heavy hitters and some meditative bleeps for your soul.

A continuous stream of new music and a rare, but welcome spot of sun over the country is making lockdown bearable. Whether you need that raw, gritty boom bap or your weekly fix of feel good pop we got you covered. Before you hop on that zoom call or start that virtual pub quiz give these tracks a spin.

Tobi-A – Barcelona

The latest offering from Anomaly Collective comes off the back of a short break for Laois native Tobi-A.

‘Barcelona’ is a dance-inducing summer anthem, built upon a spread of synths and tentative, understated guitar rifts. Pour one out for the empty clubs with this one.

Evans Junior – Shock ‘Em Feat. Jordan Adetunji & JyellowL

Insert Avengers Assemble memes here.

‘Shock ‘Em’ is a collaborative banger from three of Ireland’s heavy hitters. Challenging the narrative created by England’s dilemma in the centre of the park during the 2000’s – Jordan Adetunji, Evans Junior and JyellowL have showed that big names can work harmoniously (even if the song was launched amidst some internet handbags).

This track is anything, but mid.

Alica Raye – Quit Feat. Adaeze

Vocalising lingering uncertainties over a twinkling instrumental,  Drogheda’s Alicia Raye is cementing her place as one of Ireland’s most exciting RnB prospects.

There’s an aspirational undertone and relatable feeling of hesitancy that makes this a genuinely empowering anthem.

Arthur Valentine – CHOKER

Arthur Valentine’s ‘CHOKER’ has the same pop sensibilities as much of the softer side of Brockhampton’s catalog. It’s a track with roots firmly in bedroom pop, but with an additional level of sheen that doesn’t disrupt its intimate qualities.

One for the reddit heads and fans of Clairo, Ryan Beatty and Christian Alexander.

Issac Jones – Ends Feat. Ahmed, With Love

This inspired link up sees Issac Jones provide a head-nodding vocal performance, before leaving ample space for Ahmed, With Love to bring a conversational verse to the table. The to the point approach and juxtaposing style creates a feeling that this is what Zach Fox would sound like if he had manners.

BoyW1DR – Jaguar

FaR Collective’s BoyW1DR has returned with a more stripped back effort, showcasing his ear for musicality and penchant for flex-dominated lyrics.

Featuring production from LHK it’s a relationship that has continued to blossom since its first outing on his ‘The Irish Wonderboy’ EP.

Marcus Woods – Tacenda

Icy and immersive, ‘Tacenda’ is the result of carefully threading code from the Matrix into the PS2 start up screen. Adding a few light 808s and clicks to the mix, it feels like a guided meditation for the internet generation.
