GALPAL announce collaborative event with Irish Film Institute for International Women’s Day

Words: Eva O’Beirne

Called ‘Directed By Her’, the event curated by GALPAL aims to “celebrate the amazing work being done by female directors in this country”.

The GALPAL Collective is an organisation dedicated to the celebration, creation and support of art by young queer folk, women, and people of colour.

The collective was founded by journalist and writer Ashley Chadamoyo Makombe alongside filmmaker and visual artist Aisha Bolaji in 2020.

Taking place in the Irish Film Institute on International Women’s Day, the night will consist of screenings of short films as well as music videos, followed by a panel discussion of some of the featured directors hosted by Ashley Chadamoyo, and a drinks reception to close off the night.

The screened pieces have been curated by GALPAL’s Aisha Bolaji and Lisa Dempsey.

The event will start at 18:00 on Wednesday 8 March, with tickets available on the IFI’s website now.

Tickets cost 14 euro for adults, with concession tickets costing 11.50 euro. For more information, click here.
