IMMA’s Earth Rising Festival Is Returning To Combine Artwork And Activism

From 20 to 22 September, The Irish Museum of Modern Art is hosting the third annual “Earth Rising Festival”, intertwining art with its roots in nature.
With environmental sustainability and green policy at the core of creativity at Earth Rising, a plethora of exhibitions, workshops and activities will take place to deepen our connection with a green future. Over 60 artists and collaborators are set to contribute to the three-day event, focusing on nature, ecology and climate.
This free festival boasts as a stop-off point for one of the most sustainable music tours in the world right now, by RnB artist Lie Ning, who has only utilised green methods to circumnavigate the globe. As well as this, various large-scale installations will punctuate the IMMA’s flourishing grounds, such as spectacles from Creative Ireland’s Demolition Takedown.
Multidisciplinary sights are to behold through the poetry of Cormac Mac Gearailt and the nocturnal field recordings of Sarah Rose.
Take a second and wonder why we breathe. Take a Breath is a major exhibition which looks at the bigger picture of humanity and explores the minutia of how we evolved into modern society. Casting an eye over colonialism, capitalism and environmental injustice, it delves into how and why today is like it is and what may the future hold.
What we quite literally consume is one of the biggest factors for an environmentally friendly future. Earth Rising’s food programme sees cultures collide in a display of intercontinental cuisine appreciation. From “A Taste of the African Diaspora” to talks on how changing food policy could pave the way for a more sustainable world of human consumption.
