Premiere: Fay’d – An Spailpín Fánach (Drill Remix)

Words: Dylan Murphy

Tap into the first viewing of rising rapper Fay’d’s drill remix of the leaving cert poem.

There’s a beautiful synergy resulting from Ireland’s blossoming drill scene and its young artists connecting with the Island’s poetic history.

Burgeoning rapper Fay’d pushed the genre into uncharted territory with his reworking of the Leaving Cert poem An Spailpín Fánach earlier this year. The video came as part of an inspired attempt to convince his teacher to hold off on a class test and highlight his pen game at once.

As part of the special livestream that comes courtesy of Ireland’s Edge, the rising artist performed the track in the National Gallery, the same venue where Denise Chaila had her breakout moment during lockdown. Hopefully Fay’d can follow in her footsteps.
