Words: Dylan Murphy

The series will see Cage examine the history of how swear words came to be.

Nicolas Cage is hosting a brand new docuseries on Netflix and it’ll see the actor explore the origins of the English language’s most common swear words.

According to Deadline History of Swear Words will set out to examine the humble beginnings of words such as “fuck,” “shit,” “bitch,” “dick,” “pussy,” and “damn.”

Cage will chat with pop culture experts and entertainers such as Sarah Silverman, Open Mike Eagle, Nick Offerman, Joel Kim Booster, DeRay Davis, Nikki Glaser, London Hughes, Patti Harrison, Jim Jefferies and others. He’ll also liaise with experts such as author of What The F Benjamini Bergen and Melissa Mohr who wrote Holy Shit: A Brief History of Swearing.

The trailer sees Nicolas Cage go on an impassioned rant whilst painting a masterpiece.

He says, “Look one way and you see a gentle feline innocence, look the other way and you…” he says pausing to gather himself before blurting out “oh my”.

The result is a painting that has the word “pussy” blazed across it.

It follows news of Nicolas Cage’s feature in a show about Joe Exotic which is landing on Amazon next year.

History of Swear Words will go live on Netflix from January 5.
