Dublin Fringe Festival Is Inbound, Here’s What You Need To Catch
The weird and wonderful world of Dublin Fringe Festival gives a platform for unbridled creativity. It’s one of the only times you can experience every corner of creativity without leaving the city. From 5-20 September, Dublin Fringe will be exhibiting the cutting edge of performing arts, music, poetry, club, comedy and performances which can’t even be categorised. The gun isn’t real. The blood isn’t real. The pain is a performance. This performance centres around the corners of the internet which have bred a culture of conspiracy, distrust and post-truth politics. Created by Eoghan Carrick and Lauren Jones, Crisis acting simulates emergencies for training, and the audience are invited to watch a demonstration.

We’re not really sure how to describe this one. A multi-sensory extravaganza maybe? Roll up and see a performance featuring a puppet Joni Mitchell, a clown show and a basement puppet nightmare. Come into the chaotic safe haven that is SLUGS and they laugh in the face of a crumbling modern age in this work which was nominated for Best Comedy Show at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards.

“A deliciously dark fever dream”. West Meath Gothic looks at rural Ireland through a surrealist, dark lens. Dance and original theatre are paired with an original electronic score as we navigate through a dilapidated landscape. “A broken home. A thwarted inheritance. One locked room. The grey house groans unhappily.” A story told through aerial movement, dark comedy and gothic narrtives.
Elysian Transmutation

Part gig, part visual art experience, Elysian Transmutation blends alternative hip hop, ethereal R&B and immersive visuals, transforming the grit of the city into a distorted, dreamlike utopia. Elysian meaning a form of paradise. Transmutation meaning transformation. Starring Kid Kuba & Eluna, this visual art performance is built on a foundation of the pair’s musical roots.

Come to a conclusion on the state of the universe through a mission to make the “best worst album ever made”. Fresh from international acclaim, In Bed With My Brother bring their feral, feminist gig-theatre energy to Dublin with a loud, funny and chaotic rebellion against perfection, patriarchy and who gets to be remembered. This show is a rallying cry against the patriarchy through band members giving us “part tribute act, part feminist reclamation, part rambling flight of ideas”. It’s a reclamation of who gets to tell your story and who gets to decide if you’re a legend or a loser.

Blurring the boundaries between observation and participation, the work invites audiences into a live encounter where influence is never straightforward and responsibility is never neutral. Playful, unsettling and revealing, this striking new work explores what it means to simply be ourselves in relation to others. As expectations, choices and boundaries shift, The Act of Existing asks whether the simple act of being can become something profound.
