Meet corto.alto: The Genre-Fluid, Multi-Instrumentalist Coming To Dublin
We’re hosting a gig with corto.alto on 10 September in The Bernard Shaw with Bacardi, and there’s good reason for that. We love a night with a DJ, but as festival season winds down and gig season begins to flourish, we wanted to bless the people with one of the best live music experiences out there.

If you don’t know, get to know. corto.alto is the brainchild of Scottish artist Liam Shorthall. Alongside his accompanying musicians, he has created a sound which isn’t short of a contemporary symphony. It’s not quite jazz, it’s not quite prog rock and it’s not quite dance music. By meandering between genres, we’re truly given a unique perspective on music-making from corto.alto. Through this, the band have gained a cult following who definitely fall into the category of “tasteful music nerds”.
Shorthall came into the spotlight of the music obsessive through his debut project ‘Bad With Names’. Not only within online circles did this album become revered, but also within some of the most prestigious music communities of the modern day. In 2024, ‘Bad With Names’ was shortlisted for The Mercury Prize, one of the most esteemed awards within British and Irish music.
But to be honest, it’s not about the awards? Let’s talk about experience. When we say Shorthall is a renaissance man, we mean it. A multi-instrumentalist in its purest form. Accompanied by his band members, his creations come to life through a network of pedals, synths, drum loops and strings. Tracks such as ‘latency’, ‘THIEF’ and ‘WHODIS’ with Mick Jenkins display how genre-fluid the sound can be.
With a new project, ‘SOME SMALL FORTUNE’, dropping a mere week before our gig, this is the perfect chance to catch a man in his musical prime.
