Real stories, real people from Ireland and afar. From 10-14 September, The Irish Film Institute are hosting their annual IFI Documentary Festival, bringing brand new tales to an Irish audience. Ahead of next weekend, here are some docs that we’re currently obsessing over that you can catch in the IFI.

How To Build A Library

‘How To Build A Library’ covers the process endured by Shiro Koinange and Angela Wachuka of attempting to reinvigorate McMillian Memorial Library in Nairobi, Kenya. As the two attempt to steer the building away from its colonial past into a community space, we are given a look into Kenya’s history and its future. Followed by a Q&A with Directors Maia Lekow & Christopher King.

Gerry Adams: A Ballymurphy Man

Beo Faoin Bhfód (Buried Alive)

The fascinating story of  Mick Meaney, a Tipperary barman who was willfully buried alive in 1968 as he tried to beat the world record. Drawing on archive footage from British and Irish news sources, we are shown an eccentric figure endure a terrific challenge.
