From 23-27 October, IFI are running enough horror to traumatise a generation. Stacked with cult classic and unearthed gems of dark cinema, here are some picks to make sure you don’t sleep a wink. There’ll be a mix of some older films and some new releases and maybe a District Film Club sprinkled in along the way.

Opening the festival on 23 October, the critically-acclaimed Shelby Oaks, produced by Mike Flanagan. This film is directed by Youtuber Chris Stuckmann, who raised funds to create this passion project. The 2024 work explores a woman’s search for her long lost sister. This turns into an obsession when she questions how fictional the demons from her childhood really were.

Do you get your kicks from a more psychological thrill? District welcomes you to our Vampire’s Ball. This night is all about celebrating the world of vampirism. We’ll be screening the iconic 1998 work ‘Blade’, as part of our double screening. We expect some superior costumes. The night will culminate with a party in the IFI foyer orchestrated by District. Fancy dress encouraged.

A District Film Club select right here. ‘Let The Right One In’ is a cult classic 2008 Swedish horror which swept awards. The film follows a the strange childhood relationship of a bullied child with a newfound friend who can only be described as ‘strange’.

For those who have the gumption for gore, we have an inkling that Deathgasm 2: Goremageddon might be up your twisted street… Washed-up metalhead Brodie once again plays the Black Hymn, resurrecting his former bandmates to compete in a local Battle of the Bands.

A documentary that looks at the rise in popularity of witchcaft and the occult in the early to mid 20th century. The doc looks at the ritualistic murders that took place in the UK in the 1940s as well as the explosion of witchcraft in the 1960s.
